                          Derriaghy c.c  3-3  Crumlin Star

The Star drew their opening game of the season away to Derriaghy in Seymore Hill on Saturday. A hat-trick from striker Paul Brown gave the Star a 3-1 lead with 20 minutes to go but they could'nt hold on as the Star were reduced to 9 men. With the Star missing influential players such as Ciaran Reid, Anto Braniff, Sean O'Rielly, Kevin O'Dwyre & new signing Ciaran McCoey the Star manager was worried about this opening fixture but his players rose to the occaision and were outstanding.

The Star broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when Paul Brown nipped past 3 defenders and calmly slotted the ball past the big Derriaghy keeper. And not long later the little center forward doubled his tally when his strike partner Devenny flicked a header into his path and drove the ball home of the post. Star had a few more chances to add to their lead but it was Derriaghy who scored the last goal of the half when their left winger let fly from the edge of the box as he took Hawkins in goal by surprise.

H/T  1-2

Again it was the Star who started brighter as Mooney McConnal & Brown all went close, from a Derriaghy corner the Star hit them on the break and Paul Brown completed his hat-trick with a low 20 yard drive. Star were then reduced to 10 men when another Derriaghy corner was chested of the line by Conor Osborne but the referee deemed it to be hand ball and sent the player off giving Derriaghy a penalty to make the score 2-3. Derriaghy then drew level 10 minutes from time when their big no9 was put through and hipped the ball home to draw the sides level. In injury time Devenny saw red for a trailing arm as he was being tugged by a Derriaghy player.

Starman: Paul Brown
