Crumlin Star II 5-2 Bangor Swifts II
After a week break, Star II hosted struggling Bangor at a windy Mallusk. Star were slow getting out of the traps as bangor pushed the star defence but Hawkins, Mallon, Hagans and Murray were keeping them at bay. Star started to create chances with McCusker, Gormley, Murphy and Cairns finding their rythm but to no avail. The wind was playing havoc for both teams, but star started to dominate proceedings with Cairns finding himself through on goal on several occasions but couldnt find the net. Bangor then came back into the game and found themselves in front after a through ball caught the star defence unawares. Star gathered their thoughts and began to push forward with purpose and when Murphy slipped McNally through the clinical striker leveled the game with a wonderful strike. HALF TIME 1-1 After a stern team talk from manager Scullion, Star came flying out of the traps and pushed bangor to the limit through Osbourne and McNally, but they eventually took the lead after a long throw in from Hagans found Hawkins who rose the highest to head the Star into the lead. Star then pushed forward again and veteran Fernando Murphy scored his first of the day when Bangor failed to clear star corner. Star keeper Thompson's long ball then found Murphy and he produced his second goal of the day after a mazy run ended with a delightful chip over the stranded keeper from 18 yards. Star were in full control of the game and introduced Murray (D) for Osbourne, McCoey for Hagans and Gouldie for Cairns. Gouldie was straight into the thick of the action and scored his first of the season when he rifled a low shot by the Bangor keeper. Star continued to see the match out but not before Bangor scored a consolation goal at the end, however manager Scullion was delighted with the win as his team continue their push for the title. SQUAD: Thompson, Murray (S), Hawkins, Mallon, Hagans, Murphy, Gormley, McCusker, Cairns, Osbourne, McNally Subs: McCoey, Murray (D), Gouldie Starman- Conor Mallon
