DOWNSHIRE YM II 0 - 1 CRUMLIN STAR II Star continued their impressive away form by notching up their 3rd consectutive win on the trot as they continue to push for the championship title. Star travelled to lisburn to face tricky opposition Downshire YM and started the game very well with McConnell and Hamilton battling in the midfield along with Cairns and the ever present Murphy. The blustery conditions were making playing conditions hazardous but the backline of Currie, Hawkins, Mallon, Murray and Thompson in goal were dealing with every long ball Downshire threw at them. The tireless McNally and Osbourne were hustling up front and nearly found a break through when Hamiltons ball was just saved from McNallys snap shot. Star continued to push and Cairns and Currie worked well down the left but to no avail as McConnell shot just wide. Downshire continued to push but Hawkins and Mallon continued their good form and kept their strikers at bay. HALF TIME 0-0 The second half started and Star were now playing with the wind at their backs and led seige to the Downshire goal. Currie and Murray were pushing forward from the backline, while Murphy was jinking his way down the right hand side but Star still couldnt find the Downshire net. Assistant Hagans rang the changes to find the opener bringing on player/manager Scullion and young McCusker for Osbourne and Murray as Star frustration began to tell. Star rallied themselves for the last quarter of the game and when Hawkins and Cairns missed again they thought it was just not meant to be, however when the pacy winger Murphy cut inside to release an unstoppable shot the Downshire keeper cudnt handle it and McNally allowed his predatory instincts to finish the job and put Star in the lead. Hagans then inroduced Gourley for Cairns and Hawkins, Currie and Mallon kept the Downshire attack at bay as the final whistle went for a emphatic Star win. Manager Scullion was delighted with his side grit and determination as they sit proudly at the top of the league with not long to go. Star man- James McNally Mal Thompson, Stephen Murray, Michael Hawkins, Conor Mallon, Paul Currie, Fernando Murphy, Brendan Hamilton, Gerald McConnell, Ciaran Cairns, James McNally, Conor Osbourne SUBS: Scullion, M McCusker, J Gourley
