Crumlin Star II 4 Bryansburn Rangers 1
Crumlin Star IIs continued their quest fr the 3C title on saturday by demolishing 2nd in the league Bryansburn at Mallusk on saturday. Star had arguably their strongest team of the season available, with the only player missing was Liam McKervey. Star started the brighter of the two teams and were straight into battle with Hagans and Mooney winning the midfield battle. The star defence was as tight as ever with McAuley,Hawkins, Mallon and Murray while the midfield wingers Cairns and Murphy worked tirelessly creating chance for Doran and McNally. Star were playing with confidence and it was Mooneys through ball to veteran Micky Doran who opened the scoring the league leaders. A rare Bryansburn attack was snuffed out by the star defence and it was keeper Thompson's long ball who created the second goal for the Star, when Bryansburn cudnt deal with the attack and Doran stroked the ball away for his second of the game. At this point Star seconds were cruising and passing the ball well, Murphy was at his usual antics and trickery on the right flank and was creating chances for the tireless McNally up front. Hawkins and Mallon were defending well and it was Mallon's through ball to Cairns who beat the opposition keeper and slotted home Star's third goal. Just before the end of the half a rare lapse in concentration allowed Bryansburn in to get a goal back after their striker slotted the ball past Thompson in goal. HT- 3-1 After the break Star continued pressing well and Hagans playing the holding role was cleaning up with minimal fuss. Star killed the game off when a Murphy corner was met by Hawkins who headed the ball home to ensure victory. However the game wasnt over yet and just before the hour mark, the returning McCoey replaced Murray while Captain Hagans was replaced by Osbourne. The two subs ftted in very well and Star continued to push for more goals through Mooney and McNally. Cairns was working well on the left side and created a chance for Murphy but his shot was just wide. The tireless worker McNally was replaced by Teer and he was straight into the action but his chance was just wide of the goal. Star were pushing the opposition right to the final whistle but the game finished 4-1 to the league leaders. Manager Scullion was delighted with his team stating that their determination and their will to win brought about their great result. Star Man- Micky Doran Mal Thompson, Sean McAuley, Michael Hawkins, Conor Mallon, Stephen Murray, Fernando Murphy, Jim Hagans, Mark Mooney, Ciaran Cairns, James McNally, Micky Doran subs: Dexter Teer, Conor Osbourne, Tony McCoey
