Dromara Village II 0 - 1 Crumlin Star II

Crumlin Star IIs travelled away to Dromara Village on saturday hoping to build on their previous 6-0 win against Ards Rangers, with nearly a full strength squad apart from captain Hagans nursing an injury who was forced to drop to the bench. Star also welcomed back Liam McKervey to their starting panel as well as Timmy Whelan. Star started the game the more brightly and were quick off the mark with two good chances from Whelan and Osbourne. The Star defence of Hawkins, McAuley, Mallon and Murray were keeping the Dromara attack at bay, limiting them to long range efforts which were easily dealt with by Thompson in goal. Veteran midfielder Fernando Murphy was working as hard as ever down the right side and his eagerness brought another chance for Whelan but his shot was fired just wide of the goal. Mc Kervey and stand in midfielder for the day McNally worked tirelessly throughout the game and it was McNallys ball to Murphy who created the opening goal from left winger Ciaran Cairns to slot by the out stretched Dromara keeper. Star continued to press hard to double their lead but it was to no avail as the opposition keeper made saves from Hawkins and Mcnally, before Cairns blasted one just wide. Dromara continued to push the Star and there pressure told when just before half time they got a chance but were thwarted by Thompson in goal who pushed the shot wide.
HALF TIME 1-0
The second half started much as the same as the first with Star creating more of the chances, but they just couldnt find the killer goal. Dromara upped their work rate and began to find holes in the star midfield, but the Star defence kept them at bay. Striker Osbourne had a blistering shot tipped wide by the Dromara keeper, before Teer was introduced after returning from injury and he was straight into the action when  midfielder Cairns linked up well with Teer but there was no final product. Murphy and Murray continued to push down the right side of the pitch but again Star couldnt capitalise. Murray (D) was then introduced for his brother Stephen and went straight into the thick of the action when he and Whelan linked up well and put cairns in, but unfortunatley he ballooned the ball over the bar. The Star defence kept their concentration with Hawkins, Mallon and McAuley clearing every attack and the game finished 1-0. Star manager Scullion and his assistant Hagans, were both delighted with the win and especially their players battling attitude throughout the match.
