Crumlin Star II 1 - 2 Sirocco Works II

The seconds entertained Sirocco II's in a top of the table clash with the seconds hoping to seal a win that would put them clear at the top of 3C. With both teams not playing much in recent weeks due to the weather the opening stages were a bit cagey and an even battle. Star gradually started to dominate possession but suffered an early blow when the sirocco forward found himself clear and won a penalty after mallon took him down. The same forward made no mistake from the spot and scored to make it 0-1. The seconds pushed for an equaliser with F.Murphy, Cairns and Doran creating chances but not testing the keeper. The backline of S.Murray M Hawkins Mallon and Macauley were keeping the Sirocco forwards relatively quiet. Star thought they had a penalty when F.Murphy was brought down in the area however the ref pointed for a free kick for diving and Star would go into the break 1-0 down. h/t 0-1

The second half started terrible for the seconds when they conceded a soft goal very early into the second half and found themselves 0-2 down. Again Star dominated possession and looked dangerous from set pieces. Cairns reduced the deficit when he scored from a Hagans free kick. Star pushed for an equaliser with the ref again turning down a penalty appeal. Mc Nally and Whelan were working hard up front and produced some good link up play. However Star were to run out of time and Sirocco got the crucial 3 points. f/t 1-2
