Crumlin Star II 6-0 Malchians II
Crumlin Star 2nds took on Malachians 2nds at Mallusk as the Star chased another vital victory in their title push.
The North Belfast derby started with some strong tackles from both teams with Osborne for the star and Devine for the mals putting hard but fair challenges in the centre of the park. The Mals were winning the battles for the first ten mins making Hawkins and Mc Kernan work hard in defence for the Star. The Star had inform Gerard Foster and Doyle up front and the two forwards running was stretching the Mals defence. On 25 mins James Doyle scored the goal of the game making a great run on the wing and curled an unstoppable shot into the corner of the net giving the Mals keeper no chance. Gerarld Mc Connell and Kevin Osborne were having great games in midfield as they stopped the mals from playing while also creating the play for the young star team. Halftime 1-0. On 55 mins Mc Connell played a great through ball for Whelan who was upended in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Dominic Whelan converted the spot kick to put the Star 2 goals up.On 60 mins Doyle was fouled again and from 25yards Gareth O' Neill drilled his freekick passed the helpless keeper to put the star 3 goals infront. Niall Hawkins and Ciaran Cairns came on to replace the impressive Osborne and Tony Reilly and both players combined to put Gerard Foster through who beat the offside trap and drilled his shot past the keeper to make it four. The Mals heads were down and the Star made it five when Stiofan Brown deflected shot beat the keeper from 20 yards and on 90mins Cairns got on the end of a foster shot shot.
