Crumlin Star 3-2 Newington YC On Thursday night the Star entertained Newington at Solitude for a friendly game due to both sides not having any league games. The Star dominated the early proceedings with Joe McNeil running the show down the left flank and it was McNeil who created the first goal after a terrific run down the left seen him pull a perfect ball back to Stephen Brown for the simplest of tap ins. Newington nearly equalised minutes later only for a fine save from youngster McNeill in goal when he pushed a goal bound shot from Smith round the post. The Star then doubled their advantage when nice interplay from the strike pairing of Paul & Sean Brown left Paul McLarnon with an open net for him to drill the ball past the helpless defender on the line. The Star then found themselves in dreamland minutes later when Sean Brown let loose from just inside the Newington half as his outrageous effort dipped under the crossbar giving Smith in nets no chance to make it 3-0 to the Star. Just before the break Newington scored a wonder goal of their own when their striker volleyed all from 30 yards out which flew into the top corner. The second half failed to live up to the standards of the first as a solitary goal was all that both sides could muster up. The goal came from the penalty spot after Brown was penalised for hand ball. Trainor stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way to make it 3-2. On Saturday the Star are at home to Donard Hospitals in a league fixture.
Saucy Brown rolled back the years with a stunning strike from all of 40 yards
