18th Newtonabby Old Boys 0-9 Crumlin Star

After a few below power performances in recent weeks the Star put a youthful 18th side to the sword as they produced a stunning display of mouth watering football and devastating finishing to blow the Monkstown side away. Things didn't start of too well for the Star as they missed a series of golden chances with Joe Gormley in particular being the guilty party as he missed three one on ones with the home sides keeper.  With the Star well on top it was only a matter of time before the breakthrough came and when it did the floodgates opened as Gormley netted a superb hat trick in a ten minute spell.
His first goal seen him run through on goal with only the keep to beat again and this time he learned his lesson as he calmly lifted the ball over the oncoming keeper and into the net. His second was a carbon copy of the first but this time he opted to send the keeper the wrong way and for his hat trick he beat a couple of defenders in the box then fired the Star into a commanding 3-0 lead after just 20 minutes played.
Not to be out done his strike partner Paul Brown got in on the action when he was put through on goal by Campbell and with a cheeky nut-meg he made it 4-0.
Just before the break Nial Hawkins who was having a brilliant game on the left of midfield made it 5-0 when finished from close range after Reid picked him out from a corner.

H/T 0-5

The second half seen no let up from the Ardoyne side as they once again dominated the home team in every area of the pitch. Gormley then got his fourth of the day when he ghosted past two defenders then unbelievably scooped the ball Karol Porborski style over the keeper and in of the underside of the crossbar.
With the points in the bag manager Hawkins rang the changes with Brown O'Reilly & Braniff coming on a some lengthy lay offs.
Next to get on the scoring act was Ciaran Reid when Sean Brown put him through with a pin point pass for the tireless midfielder to slot the ball past the heart broken keeper.
Paul Brown got his second of the day with an easy close range header to make it 8-0 with 20 minutes still to play. The score could've been well into double figures but for some comical misses from Brown, Campbell & Berne as the three of them blazed over the bar from only a couple of yards out.
The final goal of the day came from an excellent solo run from Ciaran Burns which started well in his own half and after a neat one two with Sean Brown at the egde of the area the big defender unleashed an unstoppable shot that flew into the top corner.
Next week the Star will face Newington Rangers at Solitude.
Also on Sunday the football team are running a day at the races do in the upper lounge of the Crumlin Star which will begin at 4pm with some live music on after so everyone is more than welcome to attend.

Joe Gormley just cant get enough goals! Another 4 goals on Saturday
