CRUMLIN STAR II 4 - 1 KILLOUGH

Star II produced a brilliant second half comeback to progress into the third round of the Co.Antrim Junior Shield. With Mc Connell and O'Neill cup tied Star were understrength but were boosted by the return of Brown and Mc Nally. Star started the match brightly and should have been one goal infront after 2 mins when Osborne and S Murray played a neat one-two down the right and S Murray squared the ball to Doyle who somehow missed from 1 yard out. Osborne was proving to be a handful for the Newcastle side with his direct running and pace and he had some efforts on goal saved by the keeper. The returning O'Dywer in nets made a few crucial stops in goal to keep the scores level. Killough got more into the game with their pacy right winger proving to be a real handful and he duly scored when he got in behind the Star defence. Star pushed for an equalizer, with Mc Nally, O'Reilly and Gormley having long range efforts easily saved by the keeper. H/T 0-1

With some harsh words said at half time by manager Larry Toner, Star were a completely different side and got the equaliser they deserved when Doyle latched onto a Gormley flick on and he cooly slotted past the keeper. Star got infront when a James Mc Nally header looped into the top corner from an Osborne cross. Reilly replaced S Murray and got straight into the action with some dangerous runs from full back and Hamilton having a long range effort saved by the keeper. Braniff replaced Gormley and Osborne got Star's third when he headed home from a Braniff corner. Stiofon Brown completed the scoring in the last minute with a tap in from close range. Manager Toner was delighted with the second half performance of his side with some excellent games from Osborne, Finegan and Mc Mullan.
