Islandmagee 2-6 Crumlin Star II Crumlin Star second string kept their title chasing ambitions alive on staurday as they travelled to Islandmagee. Star were quick out of the blocks as Hamilton and Murray linked well down the right wing and an excellent cross from the latter, enabled Cairns to continue his impressive scoring streak and put the visitors one up inside five minutes. The Ardoyne men continued to press with both Osborne and Murray having the freedom of the flanks and they then doubled their lead as McConnall made a surging run through and allowed veteran Toner to coolly slot home. The Star defence were dealing with the few home attacks however, the home team got one back before the break as the Star failed to clear a corner. H/T 2-1 After a few words from manager Hagans, the visitors extended their lead as Hawkins showed a touch of class and curled one into the net. The joy was short lived however as Islandmagee broke away and got another back leaving McNeill in goal no chance. Gormley and McConnall were continuing to release both wingers as Cairns squandered more chances for the visitors. Star introduced Brown, McCoey and Doyle and the latter was involved immediately as Cairns was brought down and Doyle slotted home from the spot. He was again given another chance from the spot as he was taken down and again made no mistake. Star were in complete control and then finished the game off as Brown linked well with Toner and the veteran got his second of the day. Manager Hagans was delighted with the team’s performance as they chase the title. Starman- Toner
