Kilroot Rec 0-1 Crumlin Star The Star are through to another semi final this season after beating Kilroot 1-0 in Carrickfergus. In blustery condition it was difficult for both sides to play decent football but with the wind at their backs it was the Star who dominated most of the first half. Paul Brown had the games first goal scoring chance but his effort was well saved by the kilroot number one. It was the home side's turn to try and break the dead lock next and from a series of corners Thompson had to make a fine save on the line from the kilroot striker. The only goal of the game came midway through the half when excellent play from the Brown brothers enabled older brother Sean to break through on goal and calmly side foot the ball past the home side's keeper to put the Star 1-0 up. This gave the Star a massive lift as they started to play some excellent football but again they where sloppy in front of goal as Reid & Hawkins both missed one on one chances with the Kilroot keeper. H/T 0-1 Facing a strong wind in the second half the Star knew they had to keep the ball on the deck and in all honestly it suited them as they created a lot more chances as they did in the first period. First to go close was captain Sean Brown when he broke free on goal but was denied by the excellent kilroot keeper. From the resulting corner Paul Brown found himself free in the box but his goal bound header was brilliantly pushed away by the home side's number one. The best move of the half came after some nice exchanges in the middle of the park resulted in Ciaran Reid breaking free down the left but his excellent cross was somehow missed by both Sean & Paul Brown for an easy tap in but Mooney kept the move alive out on the right and his cross was met by Devenny but his effort crashed of the post and across the line as the score remained 1-0. In fairness the home side where never out of the game and could've equalised on a couple of occasions but Thompson in goal made an outstanding save late on from a pin point header as the Star held firm for a deserved 1-0 win. The Star are going for their third Cochrane & Corry Cup win in a row and joining them in the Semi's are Ford, Colin Valley & Immaculata.
