Queens Grads 0-5 Crumlin Star Crumlin Star took on Queens Grads away from home at the Dub playing fields on a pitch that wouldn't have looked out of place in the Irish League. The players knew that this was a pitch that they could get the ball down a play some excellent football on and that what they did. After a slack back pass Mooney was on to it in a flash and put the Star 1-0 up after only 2 minutes of play. The Star then held their opponents in their own half as the played the ball about with plenty of confidence. It wasn't long before it was 2-0 after Ciaran Burns slipped in red hot striker Paul Brown who rounded the home keeper with ease to double the Star's advantage. Star where on the ascendancy as the created chance after chance with young Dam Whelan going the closest after his effort fizzed by the post. Soon enough it was 3-0 when Sass McConnall put Mark Mooney through on goal and the energetic striker made no mistake with the finish slipping the ball past the stranded home keeper. That's how it stayed until half time with the Star well in control of the game and looking good for the 3 points.
H/T 0-3
The second period started as the first ended with the Ardoyne side well on top with the midfield of O'Reilly and Burns winning every ball and the wide men McConnall and Whelan working hard to try and get up to support the two front men. Soon enough it was 4-0 when Ciaran McCoey crashed a pile-driver from all of 30 yards against the bar but Paul Brown was quickest to react to nod home his second of the game. Cairns and Clarke replaced Burns and whelan as the management tried to freshen up the attack. Late on Paul Brown got his deserved hat trick when McVeigh found him with a long searching ball as the striker turned his marker inside out and then curled the ball home with the help of the keepers post to round of an excellent day for the Star. The Star's management of Hawkins and Brown where delighted with their teams performance as the where missing first team regulars such as Thompson, Brown, Braniff and Reid with young Joe Gormley coming back into the fold too.
