                      CHAMPIONS!

                               Bangor Amateurs 0-8 Crumlin Star

The Star made it a league and cup double on Saturday when the destroyed Bangor Amateurs 8-0 to secure the league title. This was one of Star's easier games of the season with Bangor showing why they only have 4 points so far this season as they were no real match for the Champions. Star got off to the perfect start when after 50 seconds of play, Mooney broke with the ball from midfield and outpaced the Bangor backline and then calmly sidefooted home to settle any nerves. A few minutes later and Mooney got his second of the day when he smashed home a volley from the edge of the area. Star were in complete control and got a third on 25 minutes when a well worked free kick between Anto Braniff and S Brown saw the latter find space to square to his younger brother Paul who made no mistake from 3 yards. More chances came Star's way with S Brown and Braniff having some long range shots just go over the bar. Just before half time Mooney got his hat trick when he blasted the ball past the keeper from 10 yards. H/T 4-0
The second half was more or less the same as the first half with Star dominating and Bangor offering very little. Countless chances went missed by Star until P Brown got his 44th goal of the season when slotted past the keeper from close range. Hawkins immediately made a few changes with Mooney, Keenan  and S Brown being replaced by Mc Connall, Mc Coey and Neillis. Mc Connall was straight into the thick of the action when he rounded the goalkeeper to score from a tight angle. It was soon 7-0 when Devenny beat the offside trap and he also rounded the keeper to score. With minutes left, Reid got Star's eight and final goal when he chipped the ball over the defence and ran clear on goal to cooly score past the keeper. A terrific season for Star with 2 trophies in the cabinet and a 19 game winning streak to secure the league.
Team: Thompson, O'Reilly, Keenan, Burns, Mc Alea, Mooney, Braniff, Reid, S Brown, Devenny, P Brown   Subs: Mc Connall, Mc Coey, Neillis
