DISAPPOINTING FEW WEEKS FOR STAR II

After a superb away victory away to 18th Newtownabbey at the end of January, Star II push for promotion has suffered some unexpected setbacks. The seconds took 1 point from a possible 9 and are now hoping for other teams around them to drop points.

Star suffered a shock 3-2 loss away to bottom side Queens Grads II that was undoubtley their worst performance this season. James Mc Nally and Conor Mallon got on the scoresheet.

Star then travelled to the Ormeau Road to face Rosario II. Star dominated the match however failed to convert any chances with Toner and Doyle missing a few between them and Scully hitting the post with a penalty. Mc Veigh in goal had nothing to do most of the game and the ref in the last minute awarded Rosario a penalty despite Mc Veigh getting to the ball first and being badly injured in the collision. Rosario II converted the penalty and got the 3 points.

Star would face Rosario II the following week at Mallusk and soon raced into a 2 goal lead with Scully slotting past the keeper from close range after turning his marker and Paul Currie vollying low past the keeper from a Toner cross. A below par second half performance cost Star II 2 vital points as some naive defending and finishing let Rosario back into the match and score 2 quick goals.

Star II have just 3 games left and 9 points from these and some results going for them should see Star still challenging for that last promotion spot to the end of the season.
