                                   Crumlin Star 5-1 Castle United

Crumlin Star made into the semi finals of the Cochrane & Corry cup with a comprehensive win over Castle United. In atrocious conditions the Star faced a gale force wind and thunderous showers but still managed to dominated their counterparts. As early as the 3rd minute Ciaran Reid kept his fine scoring run going when he burst into the Castle box and fired his shot between the keepers legs to give the Star an emphatic start to the game. The gulf between the two sides was clearly visible as there was 36 places between the two sides in the Amateur league with the Star playing the ball about with confidence and looking dangerous with every attack. Barry McKervey made his first star after an ankle injury and got back to his scoring ways when he cut in from the right wing and let fly from the edge of the area to double the Star's lead. Chris Devenny got his name on the score sheet for the second week running when he rose highest from a McKervey corner to nod the ball home past the Castle keeper and Anto Braniff put the game well beyond Castle's reach when he ran on to a Devenny knock down and poked the ball passed the helpless keeper. With the wind getting stronger towards the end of the half the Star struggled to get out of their area and after a poor clearance a Castle player hit one from 25 yards and it flew in of the post to make it 4-1 at the interval.
H/T 4-1
With a strong gale behind them the Star literally camped inside the Castle final third but found the away keeper in fine form as he pulled of a series of outstanding saves. First he denied Sean Brown when he tipped his long range effort over the bar then he saved efforts from Paul Brown  and Sean O'Reilly when they looked certain to score. Paul Brown did make it 5-1 on the hour mark when rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home after a defencive mix-up. With the weather getting worse and the game well and truly over the ref asked both teams did they want to continue so both sides agreed it was pointless playing on and where delighted to get an early shower. The Star are now through to the semi finals where they'll be joined by Albion Star and 18th Newtonabby Old Boys, with Derriaghy and Immaculata still to fight out for the remaining semi final place.
Next week the Star are away to Bangor Amateurs in the Clarence cup with a 1:30 kick off.
