                                    Crumlin Star 5-3 St Lukes

Crumlin Star made it into the last 16 of the Junior Cup with a win over Belfast & District League side St Lukes. For the first half hour of the game the Star where outstanding as they found themselves 4-0 up and it could've been a lot more. Chris Devenny broke the dead-lock in the 5th minute when he turned at the edge of the box and fired a cracking shot into the top corner. Ciaran Reid then doubled the Star's advantage when he cut in from a short corner and rifled a shot into the net giving the St Lukes keeper no chance. Devenny then got his second of the game when Braniff and Reid worked a lovely move in the middle of the park to put the big man through and he delicately lifted the ball over the on-coming keeper to put the Star 3-0 up.  Sass McConnall then made it 4-0 when he vollied a Mark Mooney cross of the post and in from all of 25 yards. That was as good as it got for the Star as a series of blunders from sweeper Sean O'Reilly let the West Belfast side back into the game when they looked dead and buried. First he missed judged a bounce to let their young striker in to make it 4-1 and then he got caught in possession on the half way line which lead to St Lukes scoring a second. In between those goals the Star lost their keeper Thompson and had to replace him with left back Nellis which didn't help matters either.
H/T 4-2
The second half began with the Star well on top again after a stern talking to from manager Hawkins and the managers words seemed to work wonders as Devenny was hacked down for a stone wall penalty in the 52nd minute which Ciaran Reid beutifly stuck in the top corner. McKervey and McCoey came into the action to add some fresh legs for the Star and McKervey nearly added a 6th when he danced round for players but just missed the top corner by inches. Paul Brown could've kept his record going for scoring in every game this season but he rattled the bar from 3 yards out after the St Lukes keeper missed judged a Devenny cross. St Lukes scored a 3rd goal late on after a goal mouth scramble but it was the Star who go into the hat for the next round.
