Crumlin Star 3-1 Crumlin Star over 30's On Boxing day the current Crumlin Star side played an over 30's team of current and ex players for the Ciaran Scullion memorial cup at St Malachys college. Former players such as Micky Maguiness, Ta McWilliams, Brendan Gilvary, Seany Brown and Joe McKenna all turned out for the over 30's with some of the current elder players. Although the elder players hadn't kicked a ball in years they still showed they could still play a bit as Micky Maguiness showed when he nut-megged Young Joe McNeill in the first few minutes of the game to send the big support on the line wild. The younger side took the lead when Sass McConnell turned Eamon Hawkins inside the area and fired past Joe McKenna in goal. The elder side should've equalised soon after when Paul Scullion forced Deco McNeill into a good save but the ball fell to Ta McWilliams who headed the ball goal wards only to see his effort cleared of the line by Joe McAlea. That was to cost the older side when Eddie Copeland chopped down Anto Braniff just outside the area and Joe McNeill curled a smashing free kick into the top corner to make it 2-0. The second period started with a controversial decision when referee Paddy Conway awarded the auld lads a penalty after what looked like a great tackle by Michael Hawkins and his father made no mistake with the finish to make it 2-1. After that the older players seemed to run out of steam as the younger guys created a host of chances but failed to convert as McKenna in goal pulled of a series of fine saves. With a few minutes remaining Sass McConnal made the game safe when he left Puddy O'Reilly for dead and drove the ball home to win the cup for the younger players. The Crumlin Star football committee would like to thank everyone who turned out on the day as a great crowed showed up in honour of the late Ciaran Scullion. Paul and Sean Scullion would also like to thank everyone for taking part and for making it a great day for everyone involved. Anto Braniff lifting the Scully cup All the players after the game.
