                                 Queens Grads 0-7 Crumlin Star

Crumlin Star put in a five star performance against Queens Grads on Saturday as they literally blew their counterparts out of sight and kept their defence of their trophy on track. Although the 2B side could boast 9 wins from their 10 games played this season they were no match for the Star. Right from the kick off the Star looked head and shoulders above Queens as the Ardoyne men dominated every area of the field. Chris Devenny broke the dead lock as early as the 5th minute when he cleverly flicked a Ciaran McCoey cross past the Queens keeper and into the back of the net. Captain Sean Brown and Anto Braniff where dominating the midfield battle as they set up countless attacks in succession. Braniff nearly doubled the Stars advantage when he forced the Queens keeper into two fine saves in the space of one minute. Soon enough it was 2-0 to the cup holders when a long punt up field from Thompson found its way through to Mark Mooney who rifled his shot straight at the unlucky Queens keeper as he could only watch the ball bounce into the back of the net. Paul Brown then made it 3-0 when he headed home a Ciaran Reid corner. Again Reid was the provider for the Stars fourth when he found the unmarked Braniff at the edge of the area and the big midfielder unleashed a cracking first time shot past the helpless keeper to round of an excellent first half for the star.
H/T 0-4
The second half didn't offer any rest bite for Queens as the Star kept to the same tempo to which the Students couldn't handle. On the hour mark Sass McConnall scored the fifth, blasting the ball past the stranded keeper when put through by Sean Brown. With the game virtually over the Star began to get a bit sloppy as the missed some guilt edge chances, the worst culprit being Reid when he hit a post when he looked certain to score. Top scorer Paul Brown got his second of the day and the Stars sixth when he raced through and vollied home from the edge of the area and the scoring was complete when Reid curled one home from a tight angle for an emphatic win for the Star. The Star now play 2C side Castle United in the quarter final stage in February. Next week the Star are at home to 18th Newtonabby Old Boys in a league fixture KO 2:00pm.
