Crumlin Star II 2 - 3 Abbey Villa II AET Star II exited the Walter Moore Cup at the first hurdle after being beat after extra time against a good Abbey Villa II side. It was Abbey Villa who started the brighter with Star being under a bit of pressure but not really looking like conceding. However after 15 mins Abbey Villa pressure paid off when their left winger evaded Murray and volleyed past Mc Veigh. It went from bad to worse when only a couple of minutes later Abbey Villa doubled their lead when their tall striker scored a header from a free kick. This seemed to shake a bit of life into Star and Braniff tested the goalkeeper with a long range strike. Star reduced the deficit when Toner glanced a header past the goalkeeper from a corner. Star were playing and passing abit better and making some half chances however Abbey Villa were dangerous with their passing and quick counter attacks. The next goal would go Star's way when Murray crossed for Doyle who scored an excellent header into the top corner. H/T 2-2 The second half was a cagey half with both teams dominating in small spells and pushing for the winning goal. Both sides goalkeepers made good saves and both teams made goal line clearances to keep the sides level and extra time followed. Abbey Villa got what turned out to be the winner when their left winger headed the ball into the bottom corner. Star pushed for an equaliser but it was not to be their day. A battling display from Star after being 2-0 down so early and it now leaves them with just the league to concentrate on. F/T AET 2-3 Team: Mc Veigh, Murray, Mallon, Hawkins, Hagans, Curry, Gormley, Scully, Mc Mullan, Toner, Braniff Subs: Teer, Osborne, Doyle
