                                     Ardglass 1-4 Crumlin Star

Crumlin Star made it 9 wins in a row after outclassing a youthful Ardglass side on Saturday. With the pitch in a terrible state the Ardoyne boys had to be prepared to roll their sleeves up and battle for 90 minutes and that they did. Ardglass started the game in a 4-5-1 formation and it played into the Stars hand as the back four of McCoey, O'Reilly, Hamilton and Cairns where able to knock the ball about and set up attack after attack. Indeed it was the left back Cairns who won the Star a penalty after good work on the left with Reid resulted in the defender being chopped down for a stone wall penalty. Top scorer Paul Brown stepped up to take it but could only manage to blast the ball directly at the Argdlass keeper but older brother Sean Brown was first to the rebound to tap the ball home and save his brothers blushes. Anto Braniff nearly made it 2-0 with a curling free kick but was to be denied by the keeper and James McNally also seen a fine effort well saved too. Mark Mooney did make it 2-0 in the 33rd minute when he drove past two defenders and slid the ball home to double the Stars advantage.

H/T 0-2
The second period was more of the same as the Star played the better football and created the better chances. In fact it was until after the hour mark that keeper McVeigh had to make his first save of the game when he turned the ball round the post for an Ardglass corner. Against the run of play Ardglass did pull a goal back when Sean Brown turned the ball into his own net from a free kick at the edge of the area. Paul Brown then made it 3-1 when he volleyed the ball into the roof of the net after good work from strike partner Mooney. McVeigh then rolled back the years and produced two wonder saves to keep the Stars two goal advantage and in the dying minutes Paul Brown scored his second and the Stars fourth when he finished off a great cross from Sass McConnall.
