Cochrane & Corry cup Kelvin Old Boys 2-7 Crumlin Star The Star started their defence of the Cochrane & Corry cup with a tricky away trip to 2C outfit Kelvin Old Boys on Saturday. Goals from Paul Brown (2) Sean O'Reilly (2) Sean Brown, Chris Devenny and a wonder strike Seamy Nellis eased the Star through to the next round. In the early stages of the game things were pretty even as both sides created half chances, but it was the Star who broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when Sean O'Reilly poked home from close range from a Ciaran Reid corner. The Star were then caught napping straight after as Cairns was caught in possession in his own box and the big striker made no mistake with the finish wrong footing Thompson in goal to bring the teams level. On the half hour Star regained the lead when Paul Brown received the ball from a throw in, the little striker then beat two defenders and beautifully curled the ball round the keeper from all of 25 yards. But yet again sloppy defending was to cost the star dearly as Kevin equalised two minutes later. The Star then got their act together and started to get their passing game going and were beginning to create chances at will. In the 37th minute the Star went 3-2 in front when red-hot striker Paul Brown drove the ball into the top corner to bring his goal tally into double figures in just five games. Sean O'Reilly then made it 4-2 when he broke from midfield and calmly slotted the ball past the keeper. The Star weren't finished yet as Chris Devenny made it 5-2 on the stroke of half time with a tidy finish from a Keenan through ball. H/T 2-5 The second half was totally dominated by the Star as their superior passing and quick thinking ran Kelvin ragged. McConnal, Reid, Cairns and O'Reilly were all guilty of missing guilt edge chances as the Star opened up the Kelvin defence at will. On the hour mark O'Reilly was robbed of his hat-trick as the ball was cleared of the line but it fell to Nellis at the edge of the area and the full-back drove the ball home of the underside of the bar. Sean Brown completed the route in the 81st minute with another superb strike from the edge of the area to send the Star marching into the next round. Next week the Star are at home to Glaston in the Junior cup. TEAM: Thompson, Nellis, Cairns, Keenan, Hamilton, Reid, S.Brown, O'Reilly, McConnal, P.Brown, Devenny SUBS: Hawkins, Mooney, McCoey
