Good Point Away  For the Seconds

Sirocco II 1 - 1 Crumlin Star II 

With a few key players called up for first team duty, the seconds earned a hard fought point away to a big physical Sirocco side. The seconds had a decent start to the game with (C) Braniff just putting wide from a Teer pass. Sirocco were using their height advantage and took the lead when their defender lost his marker from a free kick and he side footed past O Dwyer to leave Star one down. Star were put under further pressure however the 3 man defence of (S) Murray, Hawkins and Hagans were winning headers and clearing their lines well. Whelan skill up front was causing Sirocco problems and Osborne's and Parker's running was a good outlet for the Star. O Dwyer made a great one handed save to keep star in the game when a Sirocco forward broke the offside trap. Star had a great chance just before half time when Whelan made a great run down the left and squared to Parker who fluffed his shot wide from 10 yards. H/T 1-0

The seconds started the second half very well and the midfield passing and battling of Scully, Teer, Mc Mullan and (C) Braniff was putting the Sirocco Midfield and backline under severe pressure. Star played some dangerous balls in the box and had some efforts on goal however the Sirocco keeper made a few good saves. Sirocco were dangerous on the counter but the team were alert and battled away. Star did get a deserved equaliser when (C) Braniff nutmegged his marker and played a brilliant throughball to Whelan who turned his marker and shot superbly into the top corner to give the keeper no chance. Star had more chances, as Parker was replaced by (D) Murray, and a blatent penalty turned down however the scores stayed the same for just about a fair result. F/T 1-1 Manager Scully was delighted with commitment and battling from the players.
