                         Crumlin Star 4-0 Bangor Amateurs

The Star got their fisrt win in the league this season with an easy 4-0 win over Bangor Amateurs at a sunny Mallusk on Saturday. With first team regulars missing such as Braniff, Reid, Mark Mooney & Barry McKervey who has resigned for the Star after a spell with Cliftonville four of the second team were drafted in and they didn't dissapoint.

Right from the off the Star were on top of Bangor with Devenny and Cairns going close. In fact it was Cairns who opened the scoring after ten minutes when a bad clearence by the Bangor keeper fell perfectly for him and the nimble winger chipped the ball over him to give the Star an early advantage. Not long later it was 2-0 when Paul Brown Breezed past two defenders and dinked the ball over the helpless keeper to double the Star's lead. On the half hour good work from Cairns on the edge of the area seen him beat one defender but was hacked down by the second for a clear penalty, up stepped Paul Brown to score his 8th goal in 4 games and made it 3-0 to the Star. The scoring wasn't over for the half as Sean O'Reilly curled in a surperb free kick on the stroke of half time to give the Star an emphatic 4-0 lead at half time.

Manager Eamon Hawkins was delighted with his team's first half performance and told them not to let up in the second but with the points secure his players took their foot of the pedal. Although the Star had countless chances in the second half to add to their tally, between poor finishing and heroic goalkeeping the score somehow stayed the same. The Star's next game is the start of their defence of the Cochrane & Corry cup away to Kelvin old boys next Saturday.

Team: Thompson, McCoey, Mooney, Hamilton, Nellis, Cairns, O'Reilly, McNally, McConnall, P.Brown, Devenny

Subs: S.Brown, Murphy, E.Hawkins
