CRUMLIN STAR II 6 - 0 KILMORE REC II Star II's got their first win of the season with an emphatic 6-0 win over Kilmore Rec II at Mallusk. Star were boosted with the return of Doyle, Cairns, Hawkins and (J) Gormley to their squad and started the brighter of the 2 sides with the pace of (J) Gormley and Doyle causing the Kilmore backline immediate problems. (J) Gormley should have opened the scoring after being sent clear on goal but his shot went wide of the goal. Keeper Mc Neill was having a great game and saved the Star from falling behind as he saved bravely after the Kilmore striker had raced clear on goal. This was a wake up call for Star and (J) Gormley scored his first goal as he made no mistake this time after being put clear again and his low shot beat the keeper. Star pushed for a second however suffered a blow when (C) Gormley went off injured to be replaced by Quail. Star got their second goal when Mc Mullan headed past the keeper from a Cairns corner. Cairns and Clarke were both causing problems with their pace and trickery and Star went into the break 2 nil up. H/T 2-0 Star's defence were having a good game with Hawkins and Collins inparticular having good games with full backs Murray and Lizard pushing forward from full back. (J) Gormley was in terrific form with his skill and pace and he set up Doyle who finished well into the bottom corner. Mc Coey and Dillon replaced Clarke and Lizard and (J) Gormley got his second when he blasted the ball into the net from a Mc Mullan throw in. He got his hat trick minutes later when he lobbed the keeper from 25 yards after being put clear from a precise Quail pass. Doyle got his second when he scored a header from 12 yards from a Cairns cross. Star's management were delighted with the win and hoped for the same for the rest of the season. F/T 6-0 Starman: (J) Gormley Cairns: Had a good game after being moved into centre midfield |

Crumlin Star II 0 - 1 UUJ II Star seconds opened up their league campaign with a narrow 1-0 defeat to UUJ II at Mallusk. The seconds squad came into the game abit depleted with first team call ups and players not being able to make the match. UUJ started the better side and had Star on the backfoot for the first 10 minutes without really causing any problems. Star gradually got into the match with veteran Toner getting on the ball more and bringing the midfield into play. The match was a midfield battle with both teams not playing much good football. The first chance fell to UUJ however their midfielder put his effort high and wide. Toner then beat 2 defenders howver his effort went wide of the goal. Star's defence of Murray, Collins, Mallon and Lizard were playing very well and dealing with any UUJ attacks comfortably and boths sides went into the break on level terms after a poor first half. H/T 0-0
Star's midfield of Hagans, Mc Mullan, Gormley and O Halloran were working tireless and trying to set up attacks. No real chances were created by both sides until the last 10 mins when the UUJ striker finished superbly into the top corner, despite appearing to handle the ball first, to give Mc Neill no chance. Star pushed for an equaliser and Toner had a perfectly good goal ruled out and also had an effort go over the bar and It was not to be Star's day. Star's management duo of Hagans and Toner were pleased with the backline and commitment of the players but were disappointed with the quality of football played at time especially in attack. F/T 0-1 Starmen: Collins and Mallon
