Larne 1-2 Crumlin Star

Yet again on Saturday the frost played havoc as the Star seen their game with *Bloomfield postponed due to a frozen pitch but luckily the players did get a game under their belts when they played Irish league first division side Larne at Inver Park last Tuesday.
Although it was only a friendly neither side wanted to lose with the Star starting the brighter of the two sides as they wanted to show their superior counterparts that they could play some attractive football.
Gormley almost broke the deadlock in the tenth minute when he broke free on goal but his touch let him down just as he got ready to shoot and the Larne *keeper made an easy save in the end.
Gormley did open the scoring soon after when Sean Brown picked him out from a corner kick for Gormley to flick the ball home to give the Star a deserved lead.
The same duo caused the Larne defence all sorts of problems minutes later when they played a neat one two but Brown seen his effort slide agonisingly wide of the post.
Sean O'Reilly then missed a sitter soon after when the ball broke for him just inside the box but he blasted well over when it looked easier to score.
Larne looked dangerous on the break with ex Irish league legend Davey Larmour fronting their attack but Nellis & Berne kept him quiet for the majority of the half.
The Star found themselves 2-0 up from another corner but this time it was Brown who got on the end of it to double the Stars advantage going into half time.
Both teams made numerous changes during the interval which interrupted the flow of the game but again the Star *started the brighter with Brown being denied an excellent chip by a brilliant finger tip save from the Larne keeper.
As the game wore on the home side began to come more and more into the game but found Thompson in goal a major stumbling block as he made a series of fine saves to deny them.
He was finally beaten in the 80th minute when the ball broke to the Larne striker who fired an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner to half the deficit.
Larne pushed for the equaliser late on but the Stars defence held firm for a totally deserved win against a top division 1 side which will no doubt please everyone connected with the club.

Ballywalter 3-2 Crumlin Star

The Star suffered their second defeat of the season on Saturday when they squandered a two goal lead to a determined Ballywalter side.*
It all started so well for the Ardoyne side when Joe Gormley put the Star into the lead with a pile driver from the edge of the box.*
Paul Brown the doubled the Stars advantage soon after with neat header at the front post from a Ciaran Reid cross.*
With a strong wind at their backs the Star looked as though they'd put the game beyond the home side before half time but credit to Ballywalter they raised their game and began to put the Star under pressure. Before the break the home side pulled a deserved goal back from a free kick at the edge if the area though Thompson in goal will be disappointed as the somehow looped over him in the middle of the goal.*
H/T 1-2
Within ten minutes of the restart the Star found themselves 3-2 down as they failed to defend a series of corners which resulted in the home side heading home two close range goals that were a carbon copy if each other.*
The Star then pushed for an equaliser and almost got it straight away when Gormley raced through on goal but dragged his shot agonisingly wide of the post. Mark Mooney & Jim Campbell then wasted glorious chances near the end as the Star tried to salvage a point from the game whilst *Ballywalter could've put the game to bed with a quick counter attack only for Thompson in goal to make a fine save.*
Next week the Star are away to Bloomfield in a league fixture.*

Team: Thompson, O'Reilly, Nellis, Berne, McAlea, Mooney, S.Brown, Campbell, Reid, P.Brown, Gormley*
Subs: Burns, McConnall, McNally*
