Queens II 1-2 Crumlin Star
The Star kept their 100% record intact with a hard fought victory over Queens reserves on Saturday. Because of their first team having no fixture Queens where able to play no fewer than 9 of their firsts and these are players who are used to playing teams like Harland & Wolf Welders and Dundela in the Championship second division so it was gonna be a really tough game for the Star. Both sides started well in the opening stages of the game as they passed the ball about with confidence and accuracy. Thompson in goal for the Star had to be on his toes early on when he turned the ball round the post after the Queens striker's shot looked goal bound. It was the Star who opened the scoring but in the 20th minute when Sean Brown found himself free at the back post to nod home a pin point Hamilton cross. Not long later Dam Whelan scored his first goal for the Star when Braniff put him through one on one with the keeper and the little winger made no mistake with his finish to put the Star 2-0 up. Queens then halved the deficit soon after with a fine free kick after Keenan fouled their striker just outside the area. The Star where dealt another blow minutes later when Keenan had to retire with an injury and was replaced by O'Reilly.

Although there where no more goals in the second half it was still an entertaining 45 minutes as both sides created some excellent goal scoring chances and played some lovely football. Joe Gormley had the chance to put the Star 3-1 up on the hour when he broke clear on goal only to be denied by the Queens keeper. Queens also had a couple of great goal scoring chances but found Thompson in goal in excellent form as he produced a string of world class saves to keep the Star in front. The Ardoyne men where then reduced to ten men midway through the half when Mooney received his second yellow of the day which resulted in the Star having to dig in really deep to win the 3 points. The Star's whole backline where outstanding in the final quarter as they defended like lions to keep the Queens forwards at bay to make it 5 wins from 5 in the league and return to the top of the table.

First team game this SaturdayThe first team game will definatly be on this weekend no matter how bad the weather is. Up to now the game is to be played on grass but if the weather gets worse it will be played on a 3G pitch so bring both mouldies & studded boots. Meet at the cub at 11:30am. |

End of season trip!Anyone going on the end of season trip will have to have the money for their flight in for the 16th December. It will be £130 for the flight and were going back to Benalmadina! |
