JOE GORMLEY All at Crumlin Star FC would like to wish Joe Gormley the best of luck with his move to local Irish Premier League side Clifonville FC. Joe in his short 2 years at the Star has made a tremendous impact to the club both on and off the field. He was joint top goalscorer last year and helped Star to a historic 2A league title and Junior Shield double. This year has saw him turn into one of the most deadliest strikers in Intermediate football when he scored 61 goals in total. Joe also received a deserved call up to the Amateur League Select side to play the Scottish Amateurs in Scotland, despite ending on the losing side, Joe done the club proud according to many sources. No doubt the always smiling striker will be missed on Saturdays afternoon! Joe Gormley |

CRUMLIN STAR 3 - 2 BALLYWALTER REC Crumlin Star finished of their season with a 3-2 win over second placed Ballywalter last Saturday. A last minute goal from Jim Campbell made sure that the Star kept their 100% winning home record at Solitude. The Stars two other goals came from Cliftonville bound Joe Gormley as he finished of the season with a staggering 61 goals in total. Gormley broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when a defence splitting through ball from Reid put him through and with a cheeky dink he lifted the ball over the oncoming keeper. Ballywalter then equalised soon after when a mix up in the Stars defence let their striker through to level things up. The Star where then awarded a penalty midway through the half when O'Reilly was chopped down inside the area, after missing the decisive penalty against Shankill a few days prior to this game O'Reilly wanted to redeem himself but unfortunately for him he missed again when his effort crashed of the bar. Just before the break the Star did go in front when Gormley pounced on a loose ball in the box and fired the Star into a deserved 2-1 lead.
H/T 2-1
The first opportunity of the second half fell to Jim Campbell when Paul Brown laid the ball on a plate for him to score but amazingly he managed to hit the bar from three yards out with a full net at his mercy. After some more chances went astray the Star were made to pay when Ballywalter scored from a corner with a fine header. With the clock running out Mark Mooney collected the ball deep in his own half and set out on a lung busting run up the left wing, after beating two defenders he brilliantly squared the ball to Campbell who tapped the ball home to give the Star the victory over their nearest rivals in the league.
Everyone connected to the Star would like to thank Sean O'Reilly, Joe McAlea & Anto Braniff for their years of success with the Star as they've had to retire due to work commitments and would also like to wish Joe Gormley every success on his move to Cliftonville. Puddy retiring!! .jpg) |
