CRUMLIN STAR II 2 - 0 ARD RANGERS II Star II continued their good run of form when they beat rivals Ard Rangers II at Mallusk. Star made a few changes to the line up with Mc Mullan replacing the unavailable Collins at centre half with Toner and Cairns returning to the starting line up. Star started the match brightly with Toner's strength upfront causing problems as he found space on the wing and found Mc Nally who blazed over from 10 yards. Toner then went on a mazy run but he dragged his shot wide. Ards came more into the game but impressive defending from Hawkins, Mallon, Mc Mullan and O' Neill kept the scores level. The pace of Doyle and Mc Nally skill was a good outlet for Star and they went deservedly infront when O'Halloran squared to Mc Nally who tapped home to put Star infront. Star were playing some good football but Ards were always a danger and missed chances from Cairns and Doyle meant Star went into the break just 1-0 infront. H/T 1-0 Star started the second half abit sloppy however Ards did not make them pay and Mc Neill in goal was rarely troubled. Cairns thought he had scored when he hit a curling effort from 18 yards however the Ards keeper pulled off a great save. Star's midfield of Gormley, O Halloran and Ciarns were battling and passing the ball well to supply the front three. With 25 to go (S) Murray replaced Hawkins. Star were let off with 20 minutes to go when the Ards striker broke clear but his effort hit the crossbar. (D) Murray replaced Doyle and the game was made safe minutes later when Cairns lobbed the keeper at his second attempt to put Star 2 goals infront. Star held on for an impressive victory and the management duo Hagans and Toner were delighted with their team's form. F/T2-0 Towser: Constant threat upfront on Saturday |

FORD II 1 - 2 CRUMLIN STAR II Star II's got their second win of the season with a hard fought win over Ford II at Twinbrook. Star welcomed back Mallon and Mc Nally to the squad however they did lose a few players to the first team. Star started the brighter of the two sides and put Ford under some early pressure however they never really troubled the Ford backline in the final third. Doyle's pace upfront was causing problems and Michael Hawkins wasted two good chances from corners when he headed the ball well over the bar twice when he had lost his marker. Clarke also had a few well struck volleys go over the bar as Star pressed for the opener. Star's midfield of O'Neil, O'Halloran, Gormley and Clarke were working tirelessly and battling well as the game turned scrappy on a poor pitch. Ford gradually came into the game but never really troubled Mc Neill in goal and the side went level going into the break. H/T 0-0 Star made a change at half time with Mc Nally replacing the hard working Quail up front and this almost paid off immediately when Mc Nally had an effort cleared off the line. Mc Nally direct running and skill was causing Ford problems and he should have had a couple of penalties however the ref waved play on on both occasions. Star's defence of Murray, Hawkins, Collins and Mallon were dealing with any Ford attacks comfortably. Star did take the lead when Mc Nally tapped home from 5 yards. Howver within minutes Ford were level when Murray lost his marker and he crossed for the Ford striker to finish easily from 3 yards. Star upped the tempo and with 25 minutes left, Clarke found O'Neil whos pin point cross found Doyle who headed home to put Star back infront. Hawkins and Clarke were replaced by Mc Coey and Toner as Star looked to close the game out. McNally, Gormley and Murray all had chances to make the game safe but wasted these however Star did see the game out and got the 3 points. Star's management of Hagans and Toner were delighted with the win and battling qualities of their players. F/T1-2 Jamesy: Got Star's First goal |
